RT Journal Article SR Electronic A1 Hloušková, Jitka T1 Where and how the world of education can intersect with the world of labour and language teaching goals JF e-Pedagogium YR 2007 VO 7 IS 2 SP 29 OP 35 UL https://e-pedagogium.upol.cz/en/artkey/epd-200702-0003.php AB The article deals with possible areas of intersection among the world of education, the world of work and language teaching goals. It takes note of the results of research carried out in the Czech Republic to analyse the problems school graduates face when entering the labour market and to detect the requirements and needs of employers and the opinions of job-centre officials. Further, it outlines an example of possible contribution of the world of education, namely teachers of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes on the tertiary level, to research in this field and to better participation of school graduates in the labour market. The example is needs assessment or analysis from the point of view of communicative competence in English for Specific Purposes. The article proposes appropriate needs assessment methods and explains the possibility to use the results for improvement in teaching a Foreign Language for Specific Purposes within a concrete branch of study and, consequently, for higher participation of the graduates in the labour market.
