The paper presents an insight into the life of one class during one academic year. The presented qualitative study uses the unique situation of repeated school closures in 2020 and 2021 and monitors the immediate impressions and development of the attitudes of eighth and ninth graders towards distance learning. The research took place in three phases, of which the first monitored the pupils' expectations and next their experience with distance learning after the repeated closure of the school. Although the Czech educational system is continuously undergoing serious changes, the direction of education policy remains unclear, the previously defi ned problems still persist and currently bear signs of systemic failure. New ideas are constantly emerging with which teachers are confronted and, in fact, already overwhelmed, new topics suffer from the lack of proper systematisation, the proposals for change are random and sometimes cannot even be applied in the Czech school environment.

In tertiary education a lack of a qualitative leap in the learning of some Czech students of English has been a phenomenon noted by the authors of the article. This trend has been confirmed by a survey the results of which are presented below. The paper focuses on teaching assistants and their profile in the context of personality traits. The aim of the study is to describe and examine the distribution of personality traits among teaching assistants in the Olomouc Region. Their personality traits were examined using the NEO Personality Inventory. The inventory was part of an online battery which was sent by email to all elementary schools in the Olomouc Region.
